Sammy is a wonderful young Australian Shepherd mix who is back in our rescue through no fault of his own! He is about 3 years old, he weighs just under 30 pounds, and he has an almost completely black coat. Sammy is housebroken and he has very nice house manners. He is also crate-trained but he prefers to just hang out with this foster dog pals when the humans are away. Sammy knows some basic obedience commands, he has perfect leash manners and he is still somewhat afraid of car rides.
Sammy loves people, but he is very shy and it takes him a while to warm up to new people. He is a medium Velcro dog who usually loves to be wherever his foster family is, but occasionally he will search out a quiet bedroom or den and sleep for a while. Sammy absolutely loves other dogs and he learns so much by watching how they react to their environment. Sammy is also a medium energy guy who loves to play with his dog pals, zoom around the yard for a few laps in the morning, go for walks around the neighborhood and join everyone on the couch for an evening of snuggles. Sammy has not been tested with cats.
The ideal family for Sammy is loving and patient. Change is not easy for this young guy, but a family who will hang in there and patiently guide his introduction to his new home will be so richly rewarded. A fenced yard and at least one other friendly dog are required, and any children in the home should be at least 12 years old – very young children can be stressful for him. Sammy is such a great dog, and if you have the great family that he is looking for, apply today! Sammy is fostered in Chesapeake, VA.
